COSHOCTON � The Coshocton County Sheriff�s Office recently became aware of a holiday credit card scam that may show up in the area. With the scam someone calls, gives their name and claims to work for a certain credit card company�s security and fraud division. They give out a badge number to identify themselves and tell you that your account was flagged for an unusual purchase pattern and that they are calling to verify. .
NASA Embezzlers Ordered To Repay Money
ORLANDO, Fla. -- Two NASA employees who pleaded guilty this summer to embezzling thousands of dollars from the space agency were sentenced Friday at a federal court hearing in Orlando to repay the money they took, serve time in prison and perform community service. Judith Lynna Frisbee, 46, of Titusville, admitted to falsifying records and inflating expense reports by the amount of $120,577, Local 6 News partner Florida Today reported. She faced up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Frisbee was sentenced instead to 16 months in jail, three years probation, and 150 hours community service. She also must make restitution in the amount of $127,029. .
Northgate Minerals to acquire Perseverance Corp. in friendly deal
VANCOUVER - Northgate Minerals Corp. (TSX: NGX) has struck a friendly US$257 million deal to acquire Perseverance Corp. Ltd. (ASX: PSV) of Australia, nearly doubling annual production at the Vancouver-based gold miner. Northgate announced late Sunday it had negotiated a friendly deal to acquire Perseverance for 20 cents Australian per share, a cash deal that values the Australian miner at about A$282 million or US$257 million. When completed, the transaction will create a multi-mine gold producer with more than 430,000 ounces of estimated production in 2008 and significant free cash flow. Perseverance has about 200,000 ounces of annual gold production from two Australian mines with significant exploration potential. The deal also leaves a company with 2.3 million ounces of proven and probable gold reserves, two million ounces of measured and indicated resources and 2.8 million ounces of less certain inferred resources.
Delta: No active merger talks with United
Delta Air Lines' management said Wednesday it is open to the "right deal" to take over another carrier after receiving a letter from a New York hedge fund urging the airline to seek a merger with United Airlines -- a combination that would create the largest airline in the world. The company created a committee Wednesday of some of its directors to look at "strategic alternatives" and hired financial and legal advisors. .

TAIPEI (XFN-ASIA) - Share prices were weaker in late trade, as an early bounce driven by technical factors and bargain-hunting gave way to concerns over continued volatility on Wall Street and credit market troubles. Technology and financial heavyweights lost steam due to redemption pressure on domestic and foreign fund management firms amid prevailing global uncertainties, dealers noted. At 12.29 pm, the weighted index was down 34.40 points or 0.40 pct at 8,636.21, off a high of 8.742.41 and a low of 8,599.39. Turnover was at 112.50 bln twd. The electronics and financial sectors were down 0.89 pct and 0.33 pct, respectively. "It is too early to say that the market has managed to walk away from a free fall, let alone putting bets on an immediate run-up," said an analyst with a leading local securities firm.
